Miscat.

No, miscat does not mean the cat spilled the milk or something that could send the poor kitty into the juicer during your morning uncaffeinated frenzy to make breakfast. Miscat is a deviantART lingo for "
Miscategorization" and that relates to your works that is improperly categorized.
For instance, you took a photograph of your beloved chihuahua that you strap up in an army costume and let it run out in the sands on the beach and call it "Saving Private Ryan" and place the photograph in the Photography > Photojournalism > Military gallery, that's just cruel. Not to the chi, but to me. Did you know that there's a category for your dog under Photography > Animals, Plants, and Nature > Domesticated Animals?
However, as reported by $
Moonbeam13 on the latest
Artist Relations Newsletter - June 26th, 2008:
We're building tools to allow deviants to help us move miscats, with measures in place to prevent abuse! In the meantime, categories will get a bit untidy.
What can you do to help?
You should continue to report miscats. When reporting, think clearly about what category a work of art really belongs to. Reports that tell us that "an art work does NOT belong here" are NOT helpful. What we need are reports that tell us where an image DOES belong.
We are currently running statistics to determine how accurately the community is reporting suggestions for what category an image *should be* in. And are considering the implementation of triggers based on community feedback that would auto-move images to the suggested categories, produce a ticket informing the artist and the group of people who participated in the move.
This way, we empower the *community* to manage the community. We will report the results as we receive them, stay tuned!...That said, there's alot of things behind the scenes we Gallery Directors are doing, so if you have placed your miscat reports in the past couple of months, we know they're there, and we're gonna streamline things soon to get everything done smoothly for all of us to work together in one big happy family. In the meantime, patience... it is a very valuable virtue. My highest gratitude for you lots who always send me such reports. You have no idea how thankful I am for your generous help in keeping the Photojournalism gallery clean of miscats or even other policy violations.

AR: Photojourna-WUT?Reporting Miscats:
Are you tired of seeing misplaced deviations in the Photojournalism gallery? Searching for some nice wedding photograph and finding someone's nostril instead? Or wanting to browse some great editorial and photojournalism works, instead you get some close up of an infected toe? Ever thought "man, that really shouldn't be there"?
You can take an active role in cleaning up the gallery with us Gallery Directors: simply report them!- Click "Report Policy Violation" on the deviation and report them as misplacements.
Please remember: If you see a violation other than miscat such as copyrights infringement or abuse, please report it appropriately and not as a miscat.
- If you know what gallery it should be relocated to, you can either choose the final subcat (example: Photography > Photojournalism > Sports) or if you are unsure you can go with the head category (Photography) - or you can leave it as it is.
- Write a little description why you think it's a miscat, or leave a message - like "this deviant has their entire gallery filled with miscats like this" ...or your own personal expletives.
- Hit the Send button.
The Gallery Directors will handle all reports filed to us and the deviation will be relocated as we see fit.
This will help us maintain the gallery, and also get you involved in the community. So, if you would like to see change, this is your chance to be proactive about it! (Thank you, ^

Though I do have to bring up one issue, is that in the "Anything else you wish to let our staff know" dialog box, a single row to insert all the text is really too small. I thought that a bigger dialog box to insert more info might help.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
It helps.
It's not always possible not to create a miscat (and considering that I'm allergic to cats and don't eat cat food) I then do have a problem on my hands.
Keep on educating us please.
